Year of Self Care Calendar

The year of self care isn't just a programme, it's an invitation to think about self care differently and also different types of self care to help you get healthier, happier and fitter.

Each month will have lots of local information and events aimed at helping you make positive changes - whatever your age, ability or state of health.

Alcohol Awareness

Do you know the units and calories in bottles, glasses or pints of your favourite drink? We're working with Drinkaware to help everyone drink safely and responsibly.

Mental Wellbeing

Good self care starts with looking after our mental wellbeing. This isn’t just an issue for those living with mental illnesses – we all need to take time to look after ourselves in this way.

Healthy Ageing

As we get older, staying fit and healthy means we can get the most out of life. We will provide lots of information on how we can all stay well for longer, and the importance of staying socially active.

Physical Activity

Aside from keeping us physically healthy, exercising makes us feel good and is a great way to meet new people. We’ll be promoting many different ways to stay active in Bracknell Forest.

Eating healthily

We are what we eat. A good diet not only keeps us healthy, but helps look after our energy levels and even our mood. We’ll be getting advice out on how to eat and drink your way to good health.

Carer Wellbeing

Carers are relatives, friends or neighbours who look after or support people who are ill, frail or disabled, without being paid. We will be focusing on helping carers look after their own health.

Learning & Volunteering

Self care is about keeping our bodies and minds active, and there are few better ways than learning or volunteering - as both have been found beneficial to physical and mental health.

Children & Families

Self care can often be seen as something that only adults need to think about. But it’s just as important for younger people. Check out http://health.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/being-parent/children-families-mon...

Workplace Health

Many of us spend more time at work than we’d like to, so workplace health is really important. Healthy workplaces are important for both employees and employers.

Quit Smoking

If you smoke then quitting is the single most important thing you can do for your health. It’s often not easy to quit, but with the right advice and support, any smoker can do it.

Winter Wellbeing

The cold weather in winter can be unpleasant enough without letting it affect our health. So, as the temperatures start to drop, we’ll be giving lots of information on how to stay well in winter.

We’ll be looking back at the Year of Self Care, celebrating some of the individuals, projects, organisations or businesses that have really helped promote self care in the preceding year.
