Bracknell Forest Volunteer Passport

The Volunteer Passport Scheme is an innovative and unique project which was set up following a series of meetings attended by the Community Resilience Partnership (Thames Valley Police, Bracknell Forest Council, Town and Parish Councils, the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Bracknell and Ascot CCG, Bracknell Forest Homes and involve Community Services, who are delivering the Scheme, supported by Waitrose). Its purpose is to link volunteers and partner agencies across Bracknell Forest, reducing duplication of training, up-skilling volunteers and establishing a volunteering standard across the borough – a positive step towards creating more resilient communities.

90 volunteers have joined up since the scheme’s inception, and over 20 organisations are now partners.

For organisations that join up, there are many benefits, including skilled volunteers, increased promotion of volunteering and training, safer communities and stronger partnerships, as well as decreased costs due to the sharing of training. Some members have said they are now mentioning their membership status when bidding for funding.

The scheme will bring many benefits to the volunteer too, including being able to carry training from placement to placement and having access to information about relevant training opportunities across Bracknell Forest.  The volunteer will also have their own ‘passport’ id/skills portfolio to show they are actively upping their skills – a great asset when moving on either in volunteering or while seeking paid employment.

There are hundreds of volunteers doing so much in Bracknell Forest every day. Our community needs them and we are hoping the passport scheme will attract more people to volunteering and offer volunteers more opportunities.

The impact on our community will be long standing: a more resilient, safer and connected society, with knowledgeable residents and skilled volunteers as well as a high standard of volunteer management and skill building.
