Self Care

What is Year of Self Care?

The Year of Self Care is about helping our residents take control of their health in 2016.  It is a chance for us to all get involved and achieve something amazing this year.

Each month there will be a different self care theme – you can see the list on the ‘Calendar’ page.  For example, in February we’ll be sending out information and advice on mental well-being, while in June we’ll be focusing on carer well-being. Keep an eye of this webpage and our @BFC_Health twitter feed.

We want to get more people, organisations and business involved in Self Care.  So, if you would like us to promote your event, service or initiative, just get in touch.  It doesn’t have to fit with the theme of the month – we will get your information out there at any time!

Also, get in touch if you’d like our help to set up and run a Self Care related event or project – just ask.  We are always happy to get involved and make it a success.

The Year of Self Care is promoting a wide range of activities and services by many different organisations. The year aims to promote ways to get fitter, healthier and happier through both council and non-council events and services. Promotion of a non-council event or service is not an endorsement of that service, person or event.

What is Self Care?

Better Self Care helps you to take control of your own health and well-being. Whether we want to have a healthier lifestyle, better manage our long term health problems, or enhance our mental well-being simple changes can make a big difference.

Obviously, we all still need help from healthcare services sometimes. But we are the real experts when it comes to our own health and well-being and good Self Care is often the best care of all.

Self Care isn’t just about living for longer.  In fact, it’s actually more about being healthy for longer.  A healthy body and mind means we get to live life to the full, with fewer limitations on what we do and how we do it.
