What is Year of Self Care?

The Year of Self Care is about promoting a wide range of events, activities and services by many different organisations - all to promote ways to help you get fitter, healthier and happier. 

Different self care themes will be set out on the ‘Calendar’ page. But you can also get information direct by liking our Facebook page or following our @BFC_Health Twitter feed.

Our Community Map will help you find out what's already happening near but everyone including groups, organisations and businesses can also get involved.

If you are organising or promoting an event, service or initiative that will help improve the health and wellbeing of local people, then we want to hear from you and help make it a success.  Please note that promotion of a non-council event or service is not an endorsement of that service, person or event.  

What is Self Care?

Self Care is about helping you take control of your health and wellbeing in 2017.

Whilst we all need help from healthcare services from time to time, we are the real experts when it comes to our own health and wellbeing.

Whether we want to have a healthier lifestyle, better manage our long-term health problems, or enhance our mental wellbeing then the simple changes we make for ourselves can make a big difference: that's self care.

Alongside all the things to do, our Health Portal has lots of advice, information and resources to help you along the way.

And remember - self care isn’t just about living for longer.  In fact, it’s actually more about being healthy for longer.  A healthy body and mind means we get to live life to the full, with fewer limitations on what we do and how we do it.
